Maybe your first association when it comes to Austria is music which also shaped the identity of the whole country for several years and it is still a very important part of the culture in Austria.

There are plenty of ski resorts in Austria and many of them offers top-class skiing. Bad Gastein is a very popular ski resort close to Salzburg, and you can easily get there by train. This makes it a lot easier if you like to go on smaller excursions during the day. After you been out skiing or snowboarding you can go for a nice treatment at the spa or just relax in the thermal bath. Bad Gastein also has a research institute that doing research on spa treatments!

Another ski resort worth visiting is Mayrhofen where you will find the steepest hill in Austria, Harakiri with a slope of 38 degrees. If you rather discover Austria's nature by foot, there are many fantastic places to visit. You can choose wherever you like longer, or shorter hiking trails and the nature is just magnificent! The Hohe Tauern is Austria's largest national park and its enchanting. Walk among lakes, cliffs, forests and steppes and listen to the wind and the singing birds and just enjoy the peace.

Music

Many of the world-famous composers are from Austria, among them, Mozart, Haydn, Liszt and Mahler. In Vienna you get the opportunity to experience classical music and modern classical music. Austria has much more to offer when it comes to music, their music scenes make room for all genres and the range of concerts and live music evenings in smaller pubs is large. During the summer, a major festival is held in Vienna, the Music Film Festival, which attracts around 900,000 visitors each year. The festival is free of charge and has a lot to offer when it comes to entertaining.


If you are eager to shop, there is plenty to choose from in Austria. You can go to the flea market on the Naschmarkt every Saturday from early morning to early evening. In Karmelitermarkt there is also a nice market and the area is generally known for its art scene which is especially for younger people. If you prefer luxury shopping, you should look up Kohlmarkt & Golden Quartier.


There is a lot of Swedish coffee culture in Vienna and plenty of coffee bars. Visit the country's oldest coffee bar - Café Bazar, which is a gathering place for artists, writers, poets and philosophers. Why not sipping coffee and eating mozartcake as if there was no tomorrow!
