Go on a road trip or hike along the Irish coast, the Wild Atlantic Way. The 2500km long coastal line stretches through mountains and cliffs, beautiful beaches and green fields. Along the way there are plenty of nice cities and villages where you can make a stop and you will have a hard time picking your favourite, since every place you will pass will be special in its own way. In Donegal you will find Europe´s highest sea cliffs, the Slieve League which reaches the spectacular height of 600 m above sea level. Continue to the historical Mizen Head which during the years, has been known for its perfect location for the communication across the Atlantic Ocean. Here you can visit the famous inventor Guglielmo Marconi’s signal tower. A few miles further on the coastline you will find Dunguaire Castle from the 1520s. The castle is today a museum and is also a place for special occasions with events and dinners. The next stop is Galway where you can enjoy a pub crawl, listen to good live music or find literature at Kenny’s Bookshop. Just outside the city you will find Kylemore Abbey, an impressive castle situated nearby a small lake. The castle was first used a residence but since the 1920’s the castle has been used as a monastery for the Benedictine nuns. Today you can visit the great castle and take a stroll in the big garden where you can find flowers in different colours and shapes.
Dublin is well known for the many famous writers who lived or was born here, many of them you might already be familiar with. Make a visit to the Dublin writer’s Museum where you can learn more about the literature of the famous authors James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, George Benham Shaw and William Butler. All four of them has written well known classics and has won the Nobel prize in literature. Other famous authors from Ireland you might have heard of are Jonathan Swift, Bram Stoker and Samuel Beckett. The book shop Book Upstairs is perfect for a rainy day. This is the oldest book shop in the city and here you can buy some tea in the café, find a good book and just sit down while watching the rain pour down outside. For those of you who love stout beer you should visit the Guiness Storehouse where you can learn about the production and history about the famous Guiness Beer. If it is time for a pub crawl you should head down to the Temple bar area, here you will find lots of pubs and bars along the crowded street.
