The prize for Malmö’s most famous building we can undoubtedly give to the Turning Torso. The 190-meter-high apartment building that winds up to the sky consists of 54 floors and was designed by architect Santiago Calatravas. Turning Torso also takes the prize for the highest skyscraper in the Nordic countries, which of course makes it worth a visit.
Something else you should not miss when you stroll through the city is the fantastic street art that shows up on many buildings around Malmö. Some of the paintings are real masterpieces, and of course it brightens up the city a bit too with the bright colours that cover gray apartment houses and dark stone walls. After a full day’s exploration, you can head to Lilla Torg, which during the summer turns into a real folk party. Bars and outdoor restaurants here are open well into the night and it is a given meeting place for both Scanians and tourists.
When the pace of the city makes you a little tired, take a trip to one of the beaches that are a stone’s throw away from the city centre. Ribersborgsstranden, or Ribban as it is often called, is a leisure area located in Västra Innerstaden. This is Malmö’s most visited beach and during hot summer days, the beach of Malmö residents who want to cool off in the salty water curls. Just a short distance from the beach you will find the Öresund Park, for the slightly more active with fields for football, rugby and American football.
If you do not have got enough of the beachlife, you can take the car or local traffic to Skanör, Falsterbo or Lomma Beach. Here you will find Sweden’s finest beaches that are similar to the paradise beaches you can see on advertisements for overseas travel. This is were the locals come to relax and escape the big city life for a while.
