Chill at the beach, festival feeling and day trips

When it comes to chilling at the beach, there is a lot to choose from. In just a short walk from the center you will find beaches such as Firule and Ovcice but you can go out to any of the islands that you reach with a shorter boat trip. Hvar is a popular island and one of the sunniest islands, if you come here on a cloudy and rainy day you are really unlucky! Other lovely islands are Vis, and near Vis you will find the blue cave that you definitely do not want to miss. Korcula is a lovely island, perfect for day hikes. There are many boat trips to choose from and some of the trips take you to the Blue Cave and a few different islands.

To get some contrast from the beach, you can attend some, festivals organized in Split. In the month of June, there is both the Mediterranean Film Festival showing films from the Mediterranean, and at the Split Summer Festival you can see concerts, ballet shows, theater performances and art exhibitions. In July, Ultra Europe is organized as a festival dedicated to electronic music and if you are in the hooks in September, another film festival will be held which shows films from all over the world both major productions and indie films.

Culture & history

It is very wonderful to just stroll around Split, not least in the older parts of the city. With almost 2000 years on the neck there is a lot to look at that can give you an idea about what life could look like then. The Roman Diocletian is said to have founded the city and, in his palace, which is so large that it is considered more like a district, 3000 people live and there are also nice cafes and shops. Look up the old bell tower to get a really good view of the whole city, and for a nice afternoon or evening stroll, we recommend Riva Harbor. In the harbor there are sometimes little markets and of course you can have something good to eat or drink here.

If you want to immerse yourself in even more culture and history, you should visit the archaeological museum with many interesting finds from Split and areas around the city, the Croatian naval museum and the ethnographic museum are also well worth a visit.
