Switzerland is undoubtedly a small ski paradise with more than 250 ski resorts around the country. But it is a small paradise in many other ways too, with magnificent mountain ranges, green plains and many lakes. In Geneva you can engage in window shopping and in Zurich you can taste luxury chocolate. You can easily travel between cities, villages and a lot of ski resorts by train! There are four different languages spoken in the country; Italian, French, German and Romanian.

Skiing, craft houses and Asian flora

A couple of hours by train from Zurich you will find about 30 different ski resorts. Ideal for those who want to squeeze in a little skiing on your trip, or vice versa, if you want to squeeze in some sightseeing in town during the skiing holiday. Hoch-Ybrig is the closest ski resort with 12 lifts and 22 slopes, Engelberg is another ski resort that is of the sleepier and calmer kind but if you want to a ski resort with some high energy after-ski, Davos is the place for you. Davos is one of Europe’s highest ski resorts and very snow safe. In addition to skiing, you can skate, play hockey, swim, play at the casino and party all night long.

Not far from Zurich you will find Stein am Rhein, a small village with cute handicraft houses with incredibly colourful facades and fantastic details. In the village there is also an art museum, a monastery from the 19th century, and perhaps the best of all – you can learn how to make your own cheese and taste lots of Swiss cheese. Satisfied and happy with cheese, you can move on to Lake Lugano in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. In the old fishing village of Morcote along the shoreline you will find Parco Scherrer, which consists of a fantastic blend of Mediterranean flora and Asian plants, Greek sculptures, Siamese tea houses and an Egyptian temple.

Art, culture and luxury chocolate

Geneva is located in the French-speaking part of Switzerland and borders France. For those of you who do not have a fantastic travel budget, you can take the opportunity to window shop and if you want to risk a cold shower, get really close to Jet d ‘Eau, one of the largest fountains in the world. There are a few museums to choose from in Geneva, two of which are Microcosm where you get to learn all about CERN and the Red Cross and the Red Crescent Museum which shows the humanitarian work, they perform around the world.

We have already mentioned Zurich a few times, so what is it in the city that makes it worth visiting? Well, there’s a lot to try out here, how about chocolate filled with Don Perignon? You will find luxury champagne chocolates at the Café Teuscher. If you want to eat dinner in a very different way, then you should book a table at Blinde Kuh. Here you can enjoy your dinner in almost total darkness. Something odd but so exciting! When one of our senses is blocked, our other senses tend to be extra sensitive and receptive… Feel free to look into Kunsthaus if you want to see works of art by Monet and Picasso, for example. If you want luxury shopping there are many options for you and if you would rather find bargains you should look up Bürkliplatz in the old part of town.
