Warsaw has 76 parks and 160 green squares; it is to say the least a green city. The largest park, the Royal Lazienki Park is one of the best parks and there is also a large palace that holds free concerts with classical music every Sunday from May to September. If you are looking for a beach, you can choose some of the beaches on the Wisła River, where you can also sunbathe and swim, rent a wooden boat or cycle along the river. Multimedia Fountain Park shows are spectacular shows with fountains, candles and music, and some cultural events are also organized in the park.
The old town, Stare Miasto, is cozy to stroll around. Almost the entire area was leveled with the ground during the Second World War and in 1950 it was decided to rebuild the district and now basically an exact copy is in place. In the Royal Palace you will find today a museum with both works of art and historical objects, every third or fourth Sunday of the month a historical film is shown in the cinema. Have a look at the Museum of Modern Art and admire the art collections. For a little more history, visit Pawiak Prison, where over 100,000 people were captured by the Nazis. Finally, something a little more uplifting, the Neon Museum, filled with neon signs! Who doesn’t love neon signs?
Since it is a little cheaper in Poland than in other parts of Europe, it is especially nice to shop here! There are plenty of shopping places in the city, both for those who want to shop from more expensive brands, the usual store chains and of course also markets. If you are looking for odd vintage finds, here you can find a lot from World War II and the Soviet Bazar na Kole. The market is open on Saturdays and Sundays. When you are hungry, take a look in the Koszyk Market Hall, packed with delicacies and fresh produce, restaurants and even some shops. The chain stores can be found on Marszalkowska and on Nowy Swial you will find many other nice shops and outdoor restaurants.
Warsaw is a city where you can experience a lot of classical music, there is also a festival completely dedicated to Chopin and you can listen to lots of piano concerts at the International Piano Festival. If you are particularly interested in classical music, opera and ballet, you may want to check out the program at the Royal Opera and book tickets in advance!
