Art and Culture

Along the rolling river Limmat you can find a lot of interesting buildings. The most admirable you will find on the Grossmünsterplatz where the mighty Grossmünsterk Church stands. This is one of the city’s most prominent symbols and many recognize it for its two stately towers. The church was built in the 8th century and has since remained through fire and renovations and is now a popular attraction. For the best view of the city and the lake, you can take the 187 stairs up into one of the towers and be offered a breath-taking view.

One of Switzerland’s best art museums can be found here in Zurich, more specifically at the Heimplatz square. Kunsthaus, as the gallery is called, has an impressive collection of works of art by great artists such as Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet. Here you can spend hours wandering around and enjoying the art. There is also a cafe where you can sit down and have a coffee or have some lunch.

Shopping for Everyone

If you like shopping, Zurich is the perfect place! Here you can walk along the Bahnhofstrasse, one of the most popular shopping streets in Europe. Along the street, stores with watches, clothing and accessories line up from the most exclusive brands such as Louis Vuitton and Prada. There are also patisseries where you can try the Swiss chocolate and buy champagne truffles.

If you are in the market for flea markets instead, you can go to the old town, for example, Bürkliplatz. There is also a market for second-hand clothes and jewellery, but also one for food and flowers where you can find fresh spices, vegetables and local specialties.
