We will travel past the major cities of Strasbourg, Paris and Lyon which will offer you shopping in quantities and delicious food. The trip will also take you through the coastal cities of Biarritz and Nice where you will be able to relax by the beach with some music in your ears or on an outdoor restaurant with a colorful drink in your hand. Two hidden gems on this trip are the smaller towns of Quimper and Carcassonne, which provide exciting history, cobbled streets and cozy markets. Each stop with its own charm, personality and culture that will make you fall in love more and more with the fantastic France. Among the green hills and large fields with grapevines, this trip will let you experience adorable views and events that you will not soon forget.

Destinations

Strasbourg, the capital of the Grand Est region. Strolling around among the stunning architecture and still rivers that seeps through the city center is sure to be a delight. Worth a visit is the Strasbourg Cathedral, which was completed in 1439 and was at that time the tallest building in the world. Another must is the picturesque district of Le Petite France, here you can roam around amidst medieval buildings and narrow alleys or enjoy something appetizing at one of the neighborhood’s many restaurants. Strasbourg is also known for its European Quarter where the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, the European Court of Justice and the Euro Corps is located.

Paris. The city is filled with hustle and bustle and is one of the most visited places in the world. No wonder, seeing as there is something for everybody here. Undoubtedly, Paris’ most distinguished attractions, which is a must visit on your to-do list, are the 324 metre high and imposing Eiffel Tower, the historic Notre-Dame and the fascinating Arc de Triomphe. Here in Paris there are also a lot of museums you must not miss. For instance, the Louvre Museum and the Musée d’Orsay, are some of France’s most famous ones which are furnished with paintings and sculptures from the most famous artists of all time. During your stay here you should also take the opportunity to relax. Why not buy a freshly baked baguette, sit in a park and just enjoy the wonderful atmosphere.

Quimper located near the coast of the peninsula of Brittany. Here you can visit the Saint-Corentin Cathedral, one of the city’s most visited attractions, which has somewhat of a special architecture and exciting history. In a more tranquil part of the city there is a lovely garden called Le Jardin de la Retraite. The garden is protected by parts of the old city wall and there are banana and palm trees such as other plants from all over the world seeded here. A perfect excursion for when you want to get away from all the people for a while. Quimper is also known for its many markets that are located around the small town. The two most popular ones are Les Halles Saint-François and Le Grand Marché, where you can buy local produce and French specialties from different food stands.

Biarritz. Here you can relax and treat yourself to a real beach holiday on one of the fine sandy beaches that are close to the city. Here you can find the two splendid beaches of Grand Plage, which suits the sun worshiper and then there is the Côte des Basques, the surfers paradise. For those who want to get a taste of the city itself, Les Halles is a must. This is normally referred to as the city center and is a large market hall that sells everything from goat cheese to vegetables and wine. If you want to get a good view of the city then Phare de Biarritz could be worth a visit. The lighthouse, inaugurated in 1834, takes you 248 steps up to the vantage point where you can get a perfect panoramic view of the sea and the city.

Carcassonne. The city is built among the ruins of a Roman fortress and therefore there is a lot of history to tell here. The old city, surrounded by two outer fortified walls, is in itself a popular attraction with its cozy, narrow streets. To enter the fortress you can go through the mighty Narbonnaise Gate which is equipped with two towers on each side. Here in the city you should not miss the Basilica of Saint Nazaire with its beautiful stained glass or the captivating cathedral of Saint Michel de Carcassonne. On the other side of the river, the newer part of the city has been set up, formerly the only thing that linked the two districts was the renowned bridge Pont Vieux, which has become the motive for many photographers.

Nice. The coastal resort known for its luxury, with expensive yachts in the harbor and celebrities walking down the street. Despite this, the glamorous city has so much more to offer. Here you can sit down on an outdoor terrace and sip on a good drink or take a stroll on the seven kilometer walkway, Promenade des Anglais. Nice is also perfect for the fashion enthusiast, here you can find both luxurious brand stores such as a variety of other stores with more affordable prices. If you are looking for areas with more foliage then you can take a trip to the old town. In this charming area there are cozy open-air cafés, colorful houses and also the fruit and flower market Cours Saleya which is obviously worth a visit.

Lyon, France’s second largest city, offering world-class cuisine, fantastic culture and exciting history. Here you can visit the Notre-Dame de Fourvière basilica with its four tall towers found in the old town or take a trip to the square of Place des Terreaux, which is known for all its open-air cafés and its compelling fountain. Lyon also offers a good selection of museums for the cultural lovers, for instance there is a film museum and an art museum that can be worth a visit. People sometimes refer to the city as France’s gastronomic capital, which is no surprise. You can find as many as 14 Michelin-starred restaurants here, but also lesser cushy restaurants, so-called “Bouchons” that serves the best local food there is to offer.
