Great Britain

The UK is an exciting destination, not least if you are a big fan of the Beatles and drinking tea in copious amounts. We really recommend ordering an afternoon tea to have an authentic British tea drinking experience. In London you will find many nice markets to stroll around, and in Liverpool a big festival is organized which showcases modern art in the form of paintings, photographs, installations and much more.

The most beautiful village in England

Castle Combe in Wittshire has many times been named England’s most beautiful village. It is filled with small stone houses and half-timbered houses and a small stone bridge that takes you across the river. You will also find a sweet old castle from the 13th century and an old church from the 14th century. Castle Combe has become a real “motorsports village” and if you are here in late summer you can join the Castle Combe Circuit where both cars and motorcycles compete.

Afternoon tea in London

Don’t miss the afternoon tea in the world when you’re in England. Surely that would be a sin, right? In London you will find many cafes and even hotels serving “afternoon tea” and it is usually between 14.00 – 17.00. Many places have really nice teas and many different varieties to choose from. When you choose your tea, it is served in a teapot and along with the tea you are of course served a lot of small and tasty treats. What about scones, cookies and pastries, clotted cream, lemon curd, marmalade and liver pie…

If you love going to markets, London is a perfect city. There are several markets here and many of them are open several days a week. The Brick Lane market is only open on Sundays and you can find everything from art deco furniture, vintage clothes, video games and cheap but super good food. Whitechapel Market is open most days of the week and offers authentic food from many different kitchens, raw materials and even a few small items such as jewellery. Sunday Upmarket is another Sunday market with lots of clothes, jewellery, artwork, toys and of course good food and drinks.

Liverpool for both music and art enthusiasts

For those of you who are a true Beatles fan, the small shop in London that sells only the Beatles may not be enough, everything from mugs and sweaters to records and books. Then go to Liverpool, just over two hours by train from London and visit the museum dedicated to the band. There is a large permanent exhibition that takes you through the history of the Beatles with lots of gadgets, clothing and instruments used by band members, but there is also a lot of material in the form of interviews and pictures.

Every two years England’s largest festival of modern art is organized in Liverpool, the festival is held from mid-summer and a bit in the fall every even year. The entire city is filled with different types of artwork and art installations and it is not just inside art galleries or museums, the artworks can be found a little everywhere like in empty buildings and outdoors. In Liverpool there is also a lot of history and here you will actually find the world’s largest Anglican cathedral, the Cathedral Church of Christ, all 189 meters long.
